How
is Blade Runner a myth? A myth, after all, is a story about superhuman beings of an earlier age, of ancient Eygpt, Greece,
or Rome. But the word "myth" can also mean a ficticious, unproven or illusory thing. Blade Runner shows us the myths
that circulate in everyday life which construct a world for us and our place in it. It reveals fundamental truths and insights
about human nature. "It is one of the most literate science fiction films, both thematically – enfolding the philosophy
of religion and moral implications of the increasing human mastery of genetic engineering, within the context of classical
Greek drama and its notions of hubris – and linguistically, drawing on the
poetry of William Blake, and the Bible." (taken from Wikipedia). That is mythology.
The
Blade Runner multiverse (DADoES, and the various movie scripts and movie versions) have not only prophesied the many conditions
that we are just now opening our eyes to; viz. corporatism, pollution, mood enhancement, species extinctions, and globalization
(just to name a few), but also alerts us to possible impending doom; vit. "World War Terminus", genetic mutations,
and various influences competing for our "psychic souls".
Blade
Runner offers much to ponder over. What does it mean to be human? What role does empathy play? What do I
know of myself? What is my true nature?
Our
survival depends on understanding empathy.
Books
and movies, like Blade Runner, have strong mythological aspects that sometimes develop into deep and intricate philosophical
systems. These items are not mythology, but contain mythic themes that, for some people, meet the same psychological needs.
However, copyright law restricts independent authors from extending modern stories. Some critics believe that the fact
that the core characters and stories of modern story cycles are not in the public domain prevents the modern story cycles
from sharing several essential aspects of mythologies. Fan fiction goes some distance to relieving this problem.

"Hollywood grew to be the most flourishing factory of popular mythology since the Greeks."

KippleZone was created in May/2005, and is owned and operated
by C.A. Chicoine. It came from the desire to write my own Fanfiction involving the world of Blade Runner. My hope, too, is
to consolidate all the wonderful fanfiction written by others spread throughout this world wide web based on this intriguing
theme either featured or linked to this web source.

[1] - Kipple, as described in the PKD book "Do Androids Dream of Electric
Sheep?", are "unwanted or useless objects that tend to reproduce itself". The first law of Kipple is...Kipple drives
out nonkipple. Other forms of the word; "kipple-ized", "kipple-factor", and "kippleization". People can turn into "living
kipple". An apartment can become "kipple-infested". Buster Friendly liked to declare, Earth would die under a layer--not
of radioactive dust--but of kipple. These and other descriptions in the book suggests an analogy to entropy.
[2] - In the Westwood game it also describes the city outer
limits, uninhabitable to ordinary Man.
